This is one of my all-time favourite kids books!
And with my little one going through a massive sleep regression, the whole month of September has been a sleepless circus in my house; thus, I have taken out this book and have read it. To my little one.
It is appropriately described as a “children’s book for adults”. Because which parent amongst us has not felt that deadly combination of exhaustion with irritation when they are bouncing and rocking their screaming baby at 4 IN THE MORNING for the 3rd week in a row, their head buzzing in the confused state of awake and asleep, their eyes burning with tears, their eyelids heavy like weights? If you have felt all this and more, then Go the F**k to Sleep, is for you!
And if you don’t have any kids but are wondering about the perfect book you can gift to a friend/family becoming a parent, then Go the F**k to Sleep, should be it! After all, misery loves company and this hilariously true book becomes a beloved companion during yet another sleepless night. If you can’t sleep, you might as well laugh at your predicament, and maintain your sanity that way.
And you gotta listen to Samuel L. Jackson’s reading of this book. His voice has that perfect mixture of affection, sarcasm, irritation and defeat, which is what the author, Adam Mansbach, intended. This book is comedy gold!
I have Samuel L. Jackson’s version of Go the Fuck to Sleep:
There is a Morgan Freeman version too!
